- With the entry into force of the German Packaging Act, the LUCID Packaging Register is used by the Central Agency Packaging Register to monitor legal compliance.
- The Central Agency does this by regularly comparing the details provided to LUCID with the data reported to the dual systems, so as to detect discrepancies quickly and efficiently. If these occur, this may indicate a regulatory infringement.
- To avoid official warnings or penalties, companies must always inform LUCID of any changes that they have reported to their dual system (and vice versa), so as to ensure that the datasets held in both of these repositories are always exactly the same.
- As the German Packaging Act clearly states that companies may not delegate their LUCID duties to third parties, dual systems are also prohibited from handling registration and data reports on behalf of their customers.
